The fundamental principles of the Nutrition and Dietetics program are the provision of training in basic and applied aspects of nutritional sciences as they are relevant to the understanding of Nutrition and Dietetics, the application of such training, and the understanding of assessment and improvement of nutritional status of communities, nation and overall socio-economic scientific and technological development of the country. The major objective is to train Dietetics technicians/Nutrition assistants for employment in the public and private sectors but additionally to develop their skills for self-employment.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
Nutrition and Dietetics department at Gombe State College of Health Science and Technology is designed to:
- Prepare therapeutic diets to prescription.
- Undertake nutrition and dietetics filed survey under supervision
- Assist in the planning of menus in the catering and food industries.
- Carry out basic catering operations.
- Act as diet supervisor in hospitals, hotels, schools, industries, canteen, and social welfare agencies.
- Plan and administer a public enlightenment program on nutrition.
- Assist in assessing and formulating the nutritional qualities of food products in food industries.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must possess credit passes at the Senior Secondary School Examination (S.S.C.E) conducted by the West African Examination Council or National Examination Council (NECO), General Certificate Examination (G.C.E) at the Ordinary level or its equivalent in Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry, Biology and any social or health science subject at not more than two (2) sittings and acceptable pass mark at the UME conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
