Gombe State College of Health Sciences and Technology Kaltungo (popularly known as School of Health Technology, kaltungo) was first established in Bauchi State in the year 1977 at the temporary site of the School of midwifery premises but was affiliated with the School of Nursing Bauchi in former Bauchi State. The College initially started with the training of nursing aid, but later Nursing Aide was faced out and community Health Aide was started.

 The courses offered then were as follows:-

  •  Community Health Assistant
  •  Community Health Aide
  •    Medical Laboratory Assistant

The first administrator of the College was Dr. Bose (Indian) from 1977-1980.  Also Dr. Hamdani a Pakistan Medical Officer served as the second administrator and handed over to Dr. Aliyu Muhammed the first indigenous Provost/administrator. 

The College was first relocated to Gombe from Bauchi in 1984 and on 11/04/1999 it was again relocated to Kaltungo, its present site. The following Principals/administrators also served as chief executive officers of the School. Alhaji Yahaya B. Kumo, Mrs. Timna A. Tukka, Mallam Umar Sade, Malam Umar Mohammed Kwami, Malam Abdullahi Bello, Mr. Malachi K. Kanadi, Mal. Musa Mohammed El-Jude, Mr. Felix Habila Gambo and Mr. Seni James Barka was appointed as the acting principal from 12/10/2012. During his regime as the acting principal, the School was upgraded to College where he happens to be the first substantive Provost of the College of Health Sciences and Technology, Kaltungo.
