PHILOSOPHY
The Philosophy of the department is in line with the framework of College education in Nigeria. It is aimed at exposing the students to sound and thorough knowledge of the theory and practice of Medical Laboratory Science.
The courses offered are designed to expose the student to core areas like clinical chemistry, hematology and Blood Transfusion Science, Histopathology, medical microbiology, immunology, and instrumentation.
Students are required to broaden their knowledge in their core areas by taking ancillary courses in chemistry, anatomy, physiology, and biology.
The practical aspect of this programme (MLT) prepares the students to fit into basic Medical Laboratory science for basic routine diagnostic processes.
On the successful completion of the three (3) year MLT programme, students obtain an automatic practice permit from the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) that is after registration with them.
This registration enables them to take up careers in Medical Laboratory practices in Tertiary (Teaching Hospitals and Specialist Hospital), Secondary (General Hospitals), Primary Health Care, and Private Establishments.
