PROGRAMME NOMENCLATURE:<\/b><\/strong><\/span><\/p>
National Diploma (ND) in Epidemiology and disease control Technology<\/span><\/p>
PROGRAMME GOAL:<\/b><\/strong><\/span><\/p>
The National Diploma Programme in Epidemiology and disease control Technology is designed to provide Middle level epidemiological personnel that will assist in epidemiological and disease control activities in communities.<\/span><\/p>
PROGRAMME<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0PHILOSOPHY<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME: <\/b><\/strong><\/span><\/p>
At the end of the programme the diplomate should be able to:<\/span><\/p>
Carry out rudimentary Epidemiological functions<\/span><\/p>
Organize Epidemiological and disease control information in the community<\/span><\/p>
Participate in the development of information, Education and communication materials at the community level<\/span><\/p>
Assist communities identify their Health challenges<\/span><\/p>
Assist in facilitating surveillance and disease notification<\/span><\/p>
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS<\/b><\/strong><\/span><\/p>
The minimum entry requirements into the ND Epidemiology and disease control Technology programme are:<\/span><\/p>
  • Five (5) credit passes in: WASC, NECOor GCE \u2018O\u2019 Level; at not more than two (2) sittings.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>
    – The subject combination must include: English, Mathematics, Biology\/Health Science, Chemistry, Physics and Geography<\/span><\/p>
    – Environmental Health Assistant Certificate (with CGPA not less than 2.50) from accredited programme\/in \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0stitution.<\/span><\/p>
    STRUCTURE\/DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME:<\/b><\/strong><\/span><\/p>
    – The ND Epidemiology and disease control Technology is a terminal programme structured to last for two (2) years (four semesters) of classroom work, laboratory and workshop practices in an accredited primary or secondary health institution.<\/span><\/p>
    – Each semester shall be for 17-18 weeks, made up as follows:<\/span><\/p>
    15 contact weeks of teaching (i.e lectures and practical sessions etc.) and<\/span><\/p>
    2 -3 weeks for registration, tests, quizzes and examinations.<\/span><\/p>

    AWARD OF NATIONAL DIPLOMA<\/b><\/strong><\/span><\/p>
    The National Diploma certificate shall be awarded by the authority of the Academic Board of the Institution. The conditions for the award of National Diploma in Epidemiology and disease control Technology Certificate include the following:<\/span><\/p>
    Satisfactory performance in all prescribed course work\/assignments, tests\/quizzes, workshop practice, laboratory work field trip etc.<\/span><\/p>
    Satisfactory performance in all semester examinations.<\/span><\/p>
    Satisfactory completion of written project\/seminar papers.<\/span><\/p>
    Completion of a minimum of between 72 and 80 semester credit unit<\/span><\/p>
    National Diploma shall be awarded based on the following classifications:<\/span><\/p>
    Distinction – CGPA 3.50 – 4.00<\/span><\/p>
    Upper Credit – CGPA 3.00 – 3.49<\/span><\/p>
    Lower Credit – CGPA 2.50 – 2.99<\/span><\/p>
    Pass – CGPA 2.00 – 2.49<\/span><\/p>
    Additionally, Candidates must pass the professional certification examination administered by the Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria (EHORECON) in the second semester of ND II (Year Two). This will enable the graduate to be inducted into Environmental Health Profession and be temporarily licensed to practice the profession as a supervisee Epidemiology and disease control Assistant pending the completion of the one-year mandatory supervised Field experience (SUPFE). The professional certification examination shall involve the following papers:<\/span><\/p>
    Oral examination<\/span><\/p>
    Practical examination<\/span><\/p>
    Theory examination made up of essay and multi choice questions (MCQ) of 50. The Essay and MCQ will test the knowledge of Public Health<\/span><\/p>
