GENERAL INFORMATION ON PUBLIC HEALTH TECHNOLOGY TECHNOLOGY<\/b><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
PROGRAMME NOMENCLATURE:<\/b><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
National Diploma (ND) in Public Health Technology Programme<\/span><\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
PROGRAMME GOAL:<\/b><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
The National Diploma Programme in Public Health Technology is designed to provide basic academic and professional training required to assist in achieving Public Health at the community level.<\/span><\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME: <\/b><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
The objectives of the ND programme in Public Health are:<\/span><\/p>\n
    \n
  1. Enable student acquire basic skill in Public Health<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Carry out community diagnosis and mobilization<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
      \n
    • Conduct Health Education and promotion in the community<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
        \n
      1. Collect, analyse and present health data<\/span><\/li>\n
      2. Assist in sensitizing and counseling Community members to actively participate in Public Health programmes<\/span><\/li>\n
      3. Participate in preventive and promotive in health care service delivery<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
        ENTRY REQUIREMENTS<\/b><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
        The minimum entry requirements into the ND Public Health Technology programme are:<\/span><\/p>\n
          \n
        1. Five (5) credit passes in: WASC, NECO or GCE \u2018O\u2019 Level; at not more than two (2) sittings.<\/span><\/li>\n
        2. The subject combination must include: English, Mathematics, Biology\/Health Science, Chemistry and Physics<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
            \n
          • Environmental Health Assistant Certificate (with CGPA not less than 2.50) from accredited programme\/Institution.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
            STRUCTURE\/DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME:<\/b><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
              \n
            1. The ND Public Health Technology is a programme structured to last for two (2) years (four semesters) of classroom work, laboratory and field practicum.<\/span><\/li>\n
            2. The two (2) years programme incorporates 3-4 months SIWES (Supervised Industrial Work Experience Scheme), which shall take place at the end of the second semester of the second year.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                \n
              • Each semester shall be for a period of 17-18 weeks, made up as follows:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                  \n
                1. 15 contact weeks of teaching (i.e. lectures and practical sessions etc) and 2 -3 weeks for registration, continuous assessment and examinations.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                   <\/b><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

                  The syllabus of the ND Public Health Technology programme consists of four (4) main components namely:<\/span><\/p>\n

                      AWARD OF NATIONAL DIPLOMA<\/b><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
                      The National Diploma Certificate shall be awarded by the authority of the Academic Board of the Institution.<\/span><\/p>\n
                      The conditions for the award of National Diploma in Public Health Technology Certificate include the following:<\/span><\/p>\n
                        \n
                      1. Satisfactory performance in all prescribed course work, continuous assessment, workshop practices, laboratory work field trip etc.<\/span><\/li>\n
                      2. Satisfactory performance in all semester examinations.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                          \n
                        • Satisfactory completion of written project\/seminar papers.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                            \n
                          1. The candidate should have completed a minimum of 72 and a maximum of 80 semester credit units.<\/span><\/li><\/ol>\n
                            DIPLOMA CLASSIFICATION<\/b><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
                            The National Diploma shall be awarded based on the following classifications by NBTE:<\/span><\/p>\n
                            Distinction – CGPA 3.50 – 4.00<\/span><\/p>\n
                            Upper Credit – CGPA 3.00 – 3.49<\/span><\/p>\n
                            Lower Credit – CGPA 2.50 – 2.99<\/span><\/p>\n
                            Pass – CGPA 2.00 – 2.49<\/span><\/p>\n
                            <\/p>\n
                            Additionally, Candidates must pass the professional Certification examination administered by the Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria (EHORECON) in the second semester of ND II (Year Two). This shall enable the student to be inducted into the profession with a temporary license to practice the profession as a Public Health Technician.<\/span><\/p>\n
                            The professional Certification examination shall involve the following papers:<\/span><\/p>\n
                              \n
                            1. Oral examination<\/span><\/li>\n
                            2. Practical examination<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                                \n
                              • Theory examination made up of essay and multi choice questions (MCQ) of 50. The Essay and MCQ will test the knowledge of Public Health<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n
                                ACCREDITATION OF PROGRAMME<\/b><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
                                The ND programme shall be accredited by the NBTE in conjunction with EHORECON before Diploma can be awarded. Details about the process of accrediting the programme for the award of ND is available on the Board\u2019s website www.nbte.gov.ng or through correspondence addressed to:<\/span><\/p>\n
