The department was introduced in the college by Dr<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Seni James Barka the former provost of the college.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">STAFF OF THE DEPARTMENT<\/span><\/p>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Mr. Billison G. Health<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Education is the first component of Primary Health Care (PHC) and it cuts across all other<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">component of PHC. Therefore, it is important to develop a curriculum for the training of<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">professionals who provide appropriate Health Promotion and Education services at the health<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">facilities, schools, workplaces, and the community at large.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">RATIONAL: the demand for the professionally trained health educators is ever-increasing yet,<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">there is not enough number of this category of staff. Therefore, is therefore, a need to train<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Health Educators to meet the growing needs of this cadre of health workers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">OBJECTIVES:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0b7 Develop the knowledge base of the trainees in the principles and practice of Health<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Promotion and Education.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0b7 Improve their skills for planning, implementing, and evaluating Health Promotion and<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Education (HEP) programs at the health facilities, schools, workplaces, and<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">community levels.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0b7 Improve their skills for communication.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0b7 Develop their skills in advocacy for HEP programmes.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0b7 Develop their skills for counseling.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">GOALS OF HEALTH EDUCATION<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0d8 The goal of health education is to enable an individual, the family, and the community<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">practice healthy behavior in a way that is culturally acceptable in the community. It<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">emphasizes the need to positively influence the health behavior of individuals and<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">communities as the living and working conditions that influence their health.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0d8 Prevention of disease<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0d8 Maintenance and improvement of health<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0d8 Reduced exposure to the risk of contracting disease<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">HEALTH EDUCATION MOTTO: A Sound Mind in a Healthy Body<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">OUR VISION A healthy world through health education.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">THE KEY SERVICES OFFERED BY HEALTH EDUCATORS<\/span><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><font color=\"#000000\"><br><\/font><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Efficient programs implemented through health education certainly influence the overall<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">community, thereby prompting individuals to become more conscious regarding their<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">personal health. Some of the key services offered by health education are:<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0d8 Conducting presentations and classes for patients covering a range of topics like sexual<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and reproductive health, disease prevention, general well-being, stress management, and<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">nutrition.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0d8 Special awareness programs for patients diagnosed with diabetes and hypertension<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">include numerous ways to cope with the disease as well as in minimizing its<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">effects on the body.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0d8 Mental health initiatives for college students and elders comprise of detailed<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">presentations and exercises designed to boost the psychological well-being of an<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">individual.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0d8 Alcohol and drug education offers a comprehensive review of the harmful effects in<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">relying on such addictive substances. It also includes counseling and awareness programs<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">aimed at vulnerable individuals like school and college students.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Health education services to pregnant women pertaining to their pregnancy and the health of the<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">infant.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">STRUCTURE OF THE PROGRAMME<\/span><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><font color=\"#000000\"><br><\/font><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0b7 The programme has four (4) components namely:<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0d8 Classroom teaching.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0d8 Practical\/field experience.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0d8 Internship.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0d8 Project (research work).<\/span><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><font color=\"#000000\"><br><\/font><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0b7 DURATION: the duration of the programme is two academic sessions of four semester<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0b7 ENTRY REQUIREMENT: Applicant for the programme must possess four (4) credit<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">passes in GCE, SSCE, NECO, or grade 11, to include English Language, Biology\/Health<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">science and any one subject.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0b7 EXAMINATION REGULATIONS: The regulations are subject to the West Africa<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Health Examination Board (WAHEB). General Examination Regulations for Diploma in<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Health Promotion and Education programme.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0d8 A student is required to register for a minimum of sixteen (16) credit units, and a maximum<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">of twenty-one (21) credit units per semester.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0d8 A student must earn seventy-four (74) credit units to qualify for the diploma in Health<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Promotion and Education.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0d8 A student with a C.G.P.A of less than one (1.0) will be advice to withdraw from the<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">programme.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0d8 The assessment of students performing in all the courses except the project essay will be<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">as follows: \u2013<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0fc Continues assessment 30%<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0fc Written examination 70%<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0d8 Project essay and defense carry a total of 100%<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Assessment for the Diploma in Health Promotion and Education.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0d8 The final marks in the Diploma in HEP will be determined on the basis of the results<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">obtained in all the courses taken during the four (4) semesters.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\uf0d8 Classification of the Diploma in Health Promotion and Education to be awarded, will be<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">based on the overall performance in the first and second sessions of the programmed.<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">DISTINCTION \u2013 70%-100%<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">UPPER CREDIT -60%-69%<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">LOWER CREDIT -50%-59%<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FAIR -40%-44%<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">PASS -45%-49%<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FAIL -BELOW- 40%<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR HEALTH EDUCATORS<\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Health educators can work in almost every sector:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Community as a community health educator<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Public health educator<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">School health educator<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Health facilities such as hospital or patient health educator<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Work with Non-Governmental Organizations<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Health Education &amp; Promotion Health promotion and education department was created by the Gombe State College of HealthScience and Technology Kaltungo in 2018.
