Health Information Management<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/header>\n
\n

The need for a National Health information system that will supply accurate Health demographic data for the planning, administration, monitoring, and evaluation of Health services, at both local and national levels has been highlighted in the National Health Policy and Strategy of 1988. Health services planning and administration law suffered serious setbacks in the country owing to a lack of adequate data. There is, therefore, the need for trained personnel who will assist the organization of Medical Records Services at all levels of healthcare deliveries.<\/span>
The success of the National Information system depends to a large extent on the ability to collect adequate and reliable data at the local government level, which are organized and forwarded to the state and Federal levels. This had brought the need for middle-level manpower to function at the Local Government Levels. The name of the program was changed to HIM in February 2005.<\/span><\/p>\n

PROGRAMME NOMENCLATURE<\/span><\/p>\n

The HRORBN sets standards and regulates the training and practice of Health Records Management in Nigeria. (Part I, section 1 subsection 1c; Part III sections 17, 18, 19, & 20 of the Act) The NBTE supervises, regulates, and oversees educational programs offered by technical institutions at secondary, polytechnic, and mono-technic levels in Nigeria through an accreditation process. Resulting in the curriculum for ND\/HND in HIM being jointly developed In 2014 HRORBN, NBTE, MEASURE Evaluation, and USAID jointly developed the current ND\/HND in the HIM curriculum.<\/span>

THE ND (HIM) PROGRAM<\/span><\/p>\n


<\/span>Is designed to produce technicians equipped with the knowledge and skill to plan, collate, organize, disseminate monitor, and manage vital information required at the local, state, and national levels in order to ensure effective and comprehensive national healthcare delivery under the supervision of a technologist.<\/span>
THE HND (HIM) PROGRAM:<\/span><\/p>\n


<\/span>Is designed to produce Technologists equipped with the knowledge and skill to plan, collate organize, disseminate monitor, and manage vital information required at the local, state, and national levels in order to ensure effective and comprehensive national health care delivery.<\/span><\/p>\n

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME<\/span>
A graduate of HIM ND\/HND should be able to:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Plan and organize health information services in the health care delivery system.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Organize and control health records, in health & medical establishments.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • collect, store, retrieve, and preserve health information<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Collate, analyze, and present health statistical data.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Participate in planning quality control, evaluation, and research in the health<\/span>
    care delivery system<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Participate in relevant committees in defining standards for health info.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Design, standardize, and control health records forms<\/span>

    DURATION<\/span>
    National Diploma<\/span><\/li>\n

  • <\/span>The is two (2) years with four (4) semesters terminal academic program followed by a year of Industrial Attachment carried out in an accredited health facility including nine (9) months of supervised clinical work experience (SIWES) at the end of the program.<\/span><\/li>\n

  • <\/span>Higher National Diploma<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n

  • <\/b><\/span>The is two (2) years with four (4) semesters terminal academic program followed by a year of Industrial Attachment carried out in an accredited health facility, including National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at the end of the program.<\/span><\/li>\n
  •  <\/span><\/li>\n
  • ENTRY REQUIREMENTS<\/span><\/li>\n

  • <\/span>\uf0a7 ND program.<\/span><\/li>

  • <\/font>A minimum of 5 credit passes, (and at not more than 2 sittings) in SSCE, WASC, or their equivalent. Subjects must include Mathematics, English language, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • PRE-HND (ND II SPECIAL)<\/span>
    \uf0a7 The course is an abridgment course to enable students with HIT\/PD certificates to get admitted into the HND program. The students for pre-HND should provide the following requirements:<\/span>
    \uf0a7 A minimum of 5 credit passes, (and at not more than 2 sittings) in SSCE, WASC, or their equivalent. Subjects must include Mathematics, English language, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry.<\/span>
    \uf0a7 All Health Information Technician or Professional Diploma certificates must be written and pass the Board\u2019s (HRORBN) professional examination and be awarded Professional results and a License to Practice.<\/span>
    \uf0a7 The license must be a current license<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    \uf0a7 All students must ensure to get Jamb regularization before the abridgment program ends.<\/span>
    \uf0a7 HND program In addition to the specific entry requirements for the ND program:<\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    • ND in (HIM) with a minimum of lower credit.;<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Evidence of one year SIWES in a health institution approved by the Board<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Pass the Board\u2019s Part I Licensing Examination<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Candidates with a Pass (GPA 2.00 \u2013 2.49) at the ND level with two (2) or more years post-ND cognate work experience may be considered<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      CURRICULUM STRUCTURE<\/span>

      • Professional\/Specialized Courses<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Basic\/Foundation Courses<\/span><\/li>\n
      • General Studies\/Education<\/span>
        STUDENT INDUSTRIAL WORK EXPERIENCE SCHEME (SIWES)<\/span>
        \uf0a7 At the end of the 2 nd semester of 1st Year of the ND program students shall undertake Six (6) weeks of mandatory SIWES at Boards accredited health facilities<\/span>
        \uf0a7 SIWESS is now a 3-unit course<\/span>
        \uf0a7 Students shall be graded as follows:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        \uf0a7 Logbook evaluation \u2013 50%<\/span>
        \uf0a7 Student\u2019s Report \u2013 30%<\/span>
        \uf0a7 Confidential Report \u2013 20%<\/span>
        Total \u2013 100%<\/span>
        AWARD OF CERTIFICATE<\/span>
        Institutions offering accredited programs will award the:<\/span>
        \uf0a7 National Diploma On completing the program and having passed:<\/span><\/p>\n

        • All prescribed coursework,<\/span><\/li>\n
        • Examinations,<\/span><\/li>\n
        • Diploma project,<\/span><\/li>\n
        • SIWES, and<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
