Governing Council - Gombe State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Kaltungo

Historical Development
Gombe State College of Health Sciences and Technology Kaltungo, formally known as the School of Health Technology, Kaltungo, was first established in Bauchi State in February 1977 at the temporary site of the School of Midwifery premises but was affiliated with the School of Nursing Bauchi, Bauchi State. The College initially started with the training of Nursing Aide, but later Nursing Aide was faced-out with the introduction of Community Health Aide programme. The courses offered were as follows:

i. Community Health Assistant
ii. Community Health Aide
iii. Medical Laboratory Assistant
 
The first Administrator of the College was Dr. Bose (Indian) from 1977 to 1980. Dr. Hamdani, a Pakistani Medical Officer, served as the second administrator and handed over to Dr. Aliyu Muhammed, the first indigenous Principal/Administrator. The College was first relocated to Gombe from Bauchi in 1984 and on 11th April, 1999, it was again relocated to Kaltungo, where the College is located at the moment. The following Principals/Adminstrators also served as Chief Executive Officers of the School; Alhaji Yahaya B. Kumo, Mrs. Timna A. Tukka, Mallam Umar Sade, Malam Umar Mohammed Kwami, Malam Abdullahi Bello, Mr. Malachi K. Kanadi, Mal. Musa Mohammed El-Jude, Mr. Felix Habila Gambo and Mr. Seni James Barka. Mr. Seni James Barka, was appointed as the acting Principal from 12th October, 2012. During his regime as the acting Principal, the School was upgraded to a College status, where he happens to be the first substantive Provost of the Gombe State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Kaltungo.

After the expiration of the two-term tenure of Dr. Seni James Barka, Dr. Ahmed Wali Doho was appointed as the Sole Administrator/Acting Provost on June 10, 2023, and served for a period of ten (10) months before his election as an Executive Chairman of Kwami Local Government Area in Gombe State. Subsequently, Dr. Umar Mohammed from the Federal University of Kashere succeeded him. He was appointed by His Excellency, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya effective 5th May, 2024.
Beyond these, the College has established a warm and mutually beneficial relationship with the State and Local Governments and has already been benefiting from the assistance of the State Government, while in turn the college has established a number of academic programme to cater for the needs of the indigenes of the State.
